Resiliency Workshop Kick-Off... Success!
As I wrote in my earlier blog post, I organized a 7 Week Resiliency Workshop. Yesterday, we had a one-hour online kick-off meeting using Zoom.
Since we had 12 people signed upfrom different parts of the world (Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Belgium, Austrai, Germany, the USA), I was conderned if I can find a good time for everyone to join. Unfortunately, we missed two people , but we were able to have 10 people joined the meeting. It was such a diverse and powerful group.
Since the reason I wanted to do this workshop was to share my experience how I bounced back (or in the process of bounding back) from my son’s death, I shared my story.
I had just got divorced when we found out about my first son’s cancer
After the surgery he lost the ability to talk or walk
We experienced a lot of difficulties including dealing with doctors, bus drivers, and elders
Reading Cheryl Sandberg’s book Option B shifted my perspective
Started volunteering with my son when he became cancer free
His cancer came back, an died after 1.5 years
I went into the dark again
But remembered purpose and wanted to start this workshop
I asked the participants why they ‘re here. What has made them resilient. What area is their strength? What area they would like to focus on. I enjoyed listening to everyone’s stories. I was grateful the participants and I were able to co-create the very safe space for the participants.
Another aspect that made the meeting very meaningful and fun was because I used the poll function and the breakout room functions on Zoom. The poll function was a very effective way to share everyone’s opinion and visually see it right away. The breakout function was a great way to bring each participants to connect with some of the people very closely and deeply.
At the end of the meeting, one person asked, “how many times are we having this online meeting? Weekly?I” I was super excited and happy to hear that. Others wrote comments on Facebook and /or send me messagaes via messaging apps how much fun they had.
I did feel so happy that I was able to use my experience to motivate people to move forward. I felt accomplished after using the Zoom functions effectively. I love offering online workshop!!!
